Pathway’s CTO and Co‑Founder Jan Chorowski will speak at ML in PL Conference 2026, on October 9th at 4.15PM at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw.
Jan will present Pathway’s new architecture, Dragon Hatchling (BDH) – a large language model inspired by scale-free biological networks, where attention emerges from local, graph-based neuron interactions rather than centralized matrix multiplications. BDH behaves like a brain-like, decentralized system with computation living on synapses adjusted through Hebbian learning, while also offering a dual, GPU-friendly implementation that empirically matches the performance of GPT-style Transformers. The model’s large, sparse, and non-negative latent space enables mechanistic interpretability, including the emergence of monosemanticity, and demonstrates rudimentary language processing capabilities even without backpropagation through time.
